The Plan
Start with the Little Ladybugs [01] and Ground Squirrels [02], both of which are scampering about just south of the Blue Badger Gate (from New Gridania). After you’ve gotten these, continue south along the trail and head east at the fork to find the Forest Funguars [03]. Warp or walk back to town and take the Yellow Serpent Gate west from Old Gridania to reach the North Shroud. Here, you’ll find Mitelings [04] west of the gate and Midge Swarms [05] on a hillside a little further north.
The remainder of our targets are back in the Central Shroud. Return to town and use the Aethernet to travel to the Gridania Aetheryte Plaza, then head back out the Blue Badger Gate. Go past the spot where you collected the Funguars last time and you’ll soon see Water Sprites [06] in a river to the east. This is the East Vein, and both Sprites and Black Efts [07] are common in its shallows from 26,17 down to 25,22. (Further south, these creatures give way to aggressive level 7 Bog Yarzons.) Continue moving through the Central Shroud in a clockwise pattern, sweeping east to Naked Rock for the Anoles [08], then south to Spirithold. Inside the gate of this ruined fortress are Trickster Imps [09]. These aggressive ranged spellcasters are the first truly dangerous mob on the list; where the Anoles spawn in an open area and can be pulled from a distance, the first corridor of Spirithold is a narrow, twisty path that affords Archers little advantage over melee fighters. If you really want to play it safe, hang out just inside the first gate and wait for the first imp to respawn — it won’t take long. Finally, sweep southwest to Galvanth’s Spire, where you’ll find Roselets [10] in abundance.
Completing these logs should take a level 1 Archer up to about level 7. To reach level 10 and move on to the next rank of Hunting Logs, consider working through the next few chapters of your guild quest and, if you haven’t yet, your main scenario quest. FATEs in Central Shroud, especially in the southern half of the zone, are another attractive option. If you’re already level 10, stay in the Central Shroud for the moment, as the first few entries in Rank 2 are also found here. Otherwise, be sure to attune to the Bentbranch Aetheryte so it’s easier to return when you’re ready.
